If you love working with plants and are available on weekdays, consider volunteering for Bernheim’s Gardening Group. The first Thursday of the month through November (other days are also available) volunteers gather to do a variety of activities in the nursery, greenhouse and other areas in the arboretum. Learn how to care for plants throughout the season, from seedlings to full-grown specimens.

Teachers and parents are invited to find out more about field trips to Blackacre. For 25 years, students have come to Blackacre to learn about Kentucky's natural environment and early settlement history. Field trips are offered to school groups ranging from kindergarten through college including both JCPS and non-JCPS groups.  Teachers are encouraged to use the field trip as either an introductory foundation experience to new material or as hands-on reinforcements to current topics of study. Photographer Kendal R. Miller of Photography by Kendal of Dillsboro, IN will be the featured artist throughout November at The Main Street Café located at 117 West Main Street in downtown Vevay. Her work will feature both color and black and white landscape and scenic images from across four states.

Join us in welcoming the Monks of the Drepung Gomang Monastery as they create a Medicine Buddha Sand Mandala, the Healing Buddha, to invoke healing of the mind and body and promote well-being. The ancient Buddhist art of 'sand painting' is a time consuming, delicate process of creating an intricate design using millions of colored sand particles. The monks will be working on the mandala for 6 hrs a day over 5 days.

Tatjana Krizmanic "Journeys". New pastel drawings by Colorado artist. Krizmanic’s pastel works are whimsical displays of European-influenced public and domestic scenes in brilliant strokes of color, making what would seem to be an ordinary occurrence into an extraordinary experience. Her work contains a warm cheerfulness where shifting perspectives make everyday settings come to life. There will be an Artist Talk and Demonstration Friday, October 17 at 4 PM, followed by a reception for the artist from 5 - 7 PM. Exhibition continues through Novemer 18, 2008.

The Frazier hosts Liberty on the Border: A Civil War Exhibit September 27, 2008 through January 19, 2009 as part of the Lincoln Bicentennial.
