Louisville Karen Salyer McElmurray will read from her new novel, The Motel of the Stars.  The story is set in Kentucky, is published by Louisville's Sarabande Books, and has been selected as this year's winner in the Linda Bruckheimer Series in Kentucky Literature.

Georgia College professor Karen McElmurray will read from her new novel, The Motel of the Stars, which has just been published by Sarabande Books, Louisville's literary press. The Motel of the Stars, McElmurray's second novel, was selected for this year's Linda Bruckheimer Series in Kentucky Literature. The book takes place in Kentucky and North Carolina during the 10-year anniversary of Harmonic Convergence, a mystical alignment of planets and an indication of universal peace first celebrated in 1987.

Louis CK. Even if you don't know the name, you're sure to know his comedy. His credits as a writer include "Late Show with David Letterman", "Late Night with Conan O'Brien", "The Dana Carvey Show", and the "Chris Rock Show". His work for the "Chris Rock Show" was nominated for an Emmy Award three times, including winning "Best Writing in a Variety or Comedy Series" in 1999. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his work writing on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien".

Directed by Alec Volz, and written by David Murray, Walden Theatre presents the World Premiere of a play about a 15 year-old girl who thinks she’s a character in the cult-classic 90’s TV show, lamenting the trials and tribulations of being a teenager and dealing with friends, guys, parents and school. “Oil and Water” is the newest art exhibit at the Jewish Community Center’s Patio Gallery. The Patio Gallery, located in the lobby, is the elegant setting for imaginative exhibits featuring the innovative artwork of locally, nationally and internationally recognized artists. “Oil and Water” is comprised of both oil and watercolor paintings from a local husband and wife team, Patricia Ritter and George McCracken.

B. Deemer Gallery presents the latest series of landscape paintings by artist, Ellen Glasgow. A reception will be held for the artist on Saturday, January 10 from 2 - 4 PM and the exhibition will continue through February 17, 2009.

Kendal R. Miller of Photography by Kendal will be the featured artist at Signatures of Switzerland County during the Vevay Main Street Jan. 2 “Happy New Year” First Friday event. Miller will show new works, including new local and area landscapes and nostalgic memorabilia. She will also demonstrate the art of hand-coloring photographs with pencils—now more often done by computer.

Flame Run contemporary art glass studio is marking the arrival of its newest resident artist – Jonathan Capps -- with “Glass Connections,” an exhibit that celebrates the studio’s friendships and connections to glass artists at Centre College and around the world. The show opens Oct. 3 and runs through Nov. 15. An opening reception begins at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3.
