The Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Program at the University of Louisville is pleased to partner with the Speed Museum to host an Iranian Film Festival from January 11 through February 22, 2009. This festival will introduce films that are well known internationally and offer glimpses into the daily lives of ordinary Iranians. These films address issues such as family, friendship, life changing decisions, and the struggle to survive. Admission is free. (Auditorium)

The mid-South’s premier show for outdoor enthusiasts returns to the Kentucky Exposition Center for nine days of fun for the whole family. “Oil and Water” is the newest art exhibit at the Jewish Community Center’s Patio Gallery. The Patio Gallery, located in the lobby, is the elegant setting for imaginative exhibits featuring the innovative artwork of locally, nationally and internationally recognized artists. “Oil and Water” is comprised of both oil and watercolor paintings from a local husband and wife team, Patricia Ritter and George McCracken.

Kendal R. Miller of Photography by Kendal will be the featured artist at Signatures of Switzerland County during the Vevay Main Street Jan. 2 “Happy New Year” First Friday event. Miller will show new works, including new local and area landscapes and nostalgic memorabilia. She will also demonstrate the art of hand-coloring photographs with pencils—now more often done by computer.
