DinnerWorks is an invitational exhibit of 15 sets of handmade dinnerware displayed on designer-decorated tables. Artists from around the country are invited to participate in the exhibit. Each artist is required to produce 8 place settings of dinnerware to be displayed. Each designer is given an approximately 9 x 11 foot space in which to create an environment that is both visually appealing and complementary to the dinnerware artist’s work.

The mid-South’s premier show for outdoor enthusiasts returns to the Kentucky Exposition Center for nine days of fun for the whole family. Attendees can shop for and book their next vacation, then visit hundreds of booths that showcase the latest in boating, fishing, hunting, camping and RVing. Special attractions include the Take Me Fishing Center, seminars from hunting and fishing pros, canine athlete competitions and the Kids Adventure Trail.

“Oil and Water” is the newest art exhibit at the Jewish Community Center’s Patio Gallery. The Patio Gallery, located in the lobby, is the elegant setting for imaginative exhibits featuring the innovative artwork of locally, nationally and internationally recognized artists. “Oil and Water” is comprised of both oil and watercolor paintings from a local husband and wife team, Patricia Ritter and George McCracken.

Kendal R. Miller of Photography by Kendal will be the featured artist at Signatures of Switzerland County during the Vevay Main Street Jan. 2 “Happy New Year” First Friday event. Miller will show new works, including new local and area landscapes and nostalgic memorabilia. She will also demonstrate the art of hand-coloring photographs with pencils—now more often done by computer.

Baklava Ingredients 1 lb. Phyllo (pastry sheets) 1 1/2 cups Butter 1 lb. chopped fine (or walnuts) Almonds 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs 1/4 cup Sugar 1 teaspoon Cinnamon 1/2 teaspoons Cloves For the Syrup 4 cups Sugar 2 cups Water 1 juice of Lemon Preparation Place 1 pastry sheet in well-buttered baking pan and brush with butter. Place second pastry sheet on top of the first and butter again. Repeat until 6 layers of buttered pastry sheets have been built up.
