The Artebella 100 Paint-Out was the first plein air competition in Louisville. Local and regional artists registered with the Louisville Visual Art Association and on May 31 went to different sites around the city to paint/draw outdoors. The original works were brought back to LVAA that day and juried by nationally recognized artist Debra Huse. The Best of Show, First, Second, and Third place winners in acrylic/oil painting, watercolor, and pastel drawing are exhibited at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts on Main St.

The Intermediate class is designed for glassblowing students who are comfortable with the basic forms created in the beginning class. The Intermediate class will concentrate on building hand skills and refining the forms. Many different color techniques will be taught and some advanced bit-work will be covered as well, including dropped feet, wraps, handles, and other sculptural bits. Minimum 3 students. Through engaging imagery, artifacts, portraits, and Lincoln’s own words, Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln presents the untold story of his lifelong engagement with Kentucky and Kentuckians and the relationships that shaped his life, helped to pave the way for his political rise and, during the Civil War, kept Kentucky in the Union. Taking a broad view of Lincoln, this exhibition explores the complex relationship between Abraham Lincoln and his native state.

In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life Temporary Exhibit, Open June – August 2009

Explore the shadow-filled streets of downtown Louisville during this 90 minute walking tour. Dressed in historic period costume, your lantern bearing guide will lead you through the dark mysteries and supernatural experiences of some of Louisville's most haunted landmarks including the Brennen House, the Old City Jail, and the Seelbach Hotel. This tour is appropriate for all ages and includes stories of the tragic spirit of the Lady In Blue, the Legend of the Stick Witch, and the mysterious apparition at the Palace Theater.

On May 16, the Frazier International History Museum opens Fontaine Ferry, a 3,800 square foot exhibition that explores this integral part of Louisville's history, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the park's closing. The exhibition will explore the park's beginnings as a boat landing in 1814, through the Great Depression and the Great Flood of 1937 to the 64-acre attraction's demise amid the effects of urban flight and racial tensions of the civil rights movement. Weatherly’s private collection of swords, sabers and related artifacts from the United States, Canada and various South American countries, is a fascinating glimpse into the past.
