In this talk, Kentucky author Bryan Bush will discuss his book Lincoln and the Speeds: A Tale of Enduring Friendship, in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition, Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln. This book is a dual biography of Joshua and James Speed and tells the story of how closely the friendship between Joshua Speed and Abraham Lincoln affected not only Joshua Speed’s life, but also the life of his brother James Speed. The Louisville Orchestra presents the Summer Classics Series on three Thursdays at 7pm in July at the Sandy Allen Fine Arts Center on the Ballard High School campus. Taking a broad view of Lincoln, this exhibition explores the complex relationship between Abraham Lincoln and his native state.

In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life Temporary Exhibit, Open June – August 2009

Explore the shadow-filled streets of downtown Louisville during this 90 minute walking tour. Dressed in historic period costume, your lantern bearing guide will lead you through the dark mysteries and supernatural experiences of some of Louisville's most haunted landmarks including the Brennen House, the Old City Jail, and the Seelbach Hotel. This tour is appropriate for all ages and includes stories of the tragic spirit of the Lady In Blue, the Legend of the Stick Witch, and the mysterious apparition at the Palace Theater.

On May 16, the Frazier International History Museum opens Fontaine Ferry, a 3,800 square foot exhibition that explores this integral part of Louisville's history, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the park's closing. The exhibition will explore the park's beginnings as a boat landing in 1814, through the Great Depression and the Great Flood of 1937 to the 64-acre attraction's demise amid the effects of urban flight and racial tensions of the civil rights movement.
