The Food for Thought lecture and luncheon series brings an insider's view to visual art to the community. Local artists are invited to present their inspirations and process, and showcase individual work. This popular program takes place on the second Tuesday of each month in the Charlotte Price Gallery, and includes lunch by Cafe Fraiche. Moderator Steve Crump, along with panelists Senator Gerald Neal, author and historian Lynn Renau and esteemed educator Karen Edwards-Hunter will discuss the integration of Fontaine Ferry in the context of the broader Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and also share their personal memories of the park. The Louisville Orchestra presents the Summer Classics Series on three Thursdays at 7pm in July at the Sandy Allen Fine Arts Center on the Ballard High School campus. Through engaging imagery, artifacts, portraits, and Lincoln’s own words, Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln presents the untold story of his lifelong engagement with Kentucky and Kentuckians and the relationships that shaped his life, helped to pave the way for his political rise and, during the Civil War, kept Kentucky in the Union. Taking a broad view of Lincoln, this exhibition explores the complex relationship between Abraham Lincoln and his native state.

In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life Temporary Exhibit, Open June – August 2009

Explore the shadow-filled streets of downtown Louisville during this 90 minute walking tour. Dressed in historic period costume, your lantern bearing guide will lead you through the dark mysteries and supernatural experiences of some of Louisville's most haunted landmarks including the Brennen House, the Old City Jail, and the Seelbach Hotel. This tour is appropriate for all ages and includes stories of the tragic spirit of the Lady In Blue, the Legend of the Stick Witch, and the mysterious apparition at the Palace Theater.

On May 16, the Frazier International History Museum opens Fontaine Ferry, a 3,800 square foot exhibition that explores this integral part of Louisville's history, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the park's closing. The exhibition will explore the park's beginnings as a boat landing in 1814, through the Great Depression and the Great Flood of 1937 to the 64-acre attraction's demise amid the effects of urban flight and racial tensions of the civil rights movement. Weatherly’s private collection of swords, sabers and related artifacts from the United States, Canada and various South American countries, is a fascinating glimpse into the past. Through the exhibition, Weatherly—a scholar, collector and past president of the American Society of Arms Collectors-- shares his passion for this area of study and collecting that is often neglected.
