Celebrating its eleventh year, the Youth Entrepreneur Success (YES) program will be held on July 21st, 22nd and 23rd at Indiana University Southeast. YES is a three-day camp hosted by One Southern Indiana. YES is designed to give youth ages 11 – 15 an opportunity to experience and explore the possibilities of entrepreneurship, team building, finance and leadership. Program is limited to 56 students.

Lucy Higgs Nichols went from being a slave in Bolivar, Tennessee to drawing a pension from the U.S. government for her service as a nurse during the Civil War. In 1862 she joined the Indiana 23rd Regiment and ended up returning to New Albany with them after the War. Local historians Pamela Peters and Vic Megenity will share the information they have recently uncovered about Lucy's fascinating story. Free, but pre-registration required (944-7336). This exhibition consists of 25 rare, unusual and landmark motorcycles manufactured between 1900 and 1970. In addition to the motorcycles, memorabilia and accessories, “Wind in Your Hair -Vintage Motorcycles” will include visual artists’ interpretations of the freedom, movement and exhilaration that motorcycles have represented in our society and culture. KMAC will also present a series of restoration and customizing workshops, lectures about collecting motorcycles and the cultural influences of motorcycles in the 20th & 21st centuries.

In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Through engaging imagery, artifacts, portraits, and Lincoln’s own words, Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln presents the untold story of his lifelong engagement with Kentucky and Kentuckians and the relationships that shaped his life, helped to pave the way for his political rise and, during the Civil War, kept Kentucky in the Union. Taking a broad view of Lincoln, this exhibition explores the complex relationship between Abraham Lincoln and his native state.

Pressma in 1970. During its eight-year existence, the Center attracted students from over 35 states and foreign countries to its full-time resident program and provided instruction and darkroom access for hundreds of students in the Louisville area. This exhibition will be a look back at the artistic career of C.J. Pressma.

What makes something a treasure? Is it its uniqueness, its maker or original owner or simply its visual appeal? Great Revivals: Kentucky Decorative Arts Treasures, presents significant pieces from the Kentucky Historical Society collections that have been preserved and are treasured. Exhibit Description: Casey Hyland's glass art exhibit, "Wishful Thinking", will feature artwork produced over the last three years. Using silvered bottles, clear stones, thin steel rods with glass and bubbles inside bubbles, the artwork describes moments of gazing into the mirror at a bar, stacking stones, blowing wishes with a dandelion and playing with soap bubbles. As well, Casey will also install a hanging chandelier in Glassworks' main lobby. Entitled "Offering", the silvered glass sculpture is loosely inspired by Shel Silverstein's"The Giving Tree".

An Exhibition of hand-colored black and white photographs documenting 40 year of travel to Kenya. By Fritz Klemperer. As a conscientious objector the Vietnam War, Fritz Klemperer began serving his two year alternative service in Kenya. He joined the merchant marine, drove an ambulance and taught school. Since then, Klemperer has returned to Kenya six times in over 40 years. Klemperer is a psychologist who lives with his wife and three children in Berea, Ohio.

Artist Statement: Bottles, stones, dandelions, and bubbles are the subjects of my work. Using reflective surfaces and solid clear glass in multiples, I am interested in the capture of light and arresting viewer. – Casey Hyland About the Artist: Since graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in architecture, Casey has traveled through Seattle, Tennessee, North Carolina, and New York studying and working at craft schools. These schools have included Pilchuck, Appalachian Center for Crafts, Penland, UrbanGlass and the Studio at Corning.

Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life Temporary Exhibit, Open June – August 2009

Explore the shadow-filled streets of downtown Louisville during this 90 minute walking tour. Dressed in historic period costume, your lantern bearing guide will lead you through the dark mysteries and supernatural experiences of some of Louisville's most haunted landmarks including the Brennen House, the Old City Jail, and the Seelbach Hotel. This tour is appropriate for all ages and includes stories of the tragic spirit of the Lady In Blue, the Legend of the Stick Witch, and the mysterious apparition at the Palace Theater.

On May 16, the Frazier International History Museum opens Fontaine Ferry, a 3,800 square foot exhibition that explores this integral part of Louisville's history, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the park's closing. The exhibition will explore the park's beginnings as a boat landing in 1814, through the Great Depression and the Great Flood of 1937 to the 64-acre attraction's demise amid the effects of urban flight and racial tensions of the civil rights movement. Weatherly’s private collection of swords, sabers and related artifacts from the United States, Canada and various South American countries, is a fascinating glimpse into the past.
