This exhibition consists of 25 rare, unusual and landmark motorcycles manufactured between 1900 and 1970. In addition to the motorcycles, memorabilia and accessories, “Wind in Your Hair -Vintage Motorcycles” will include visual artists’ interpretations of the freedom, movement and exhilaration that motorcycles have represented in our society and culture. KMAC will also present a series of restoration and customizing workshops, lectures about collecting motorcycles and the cultural influences of motorcycles in the 20th & 21st centuries.

In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Through engaging imagery, artifacts, portraits, and Lincoln’s own words, Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln presents the untold story of his lifelong engagement with Kentucky and Kentuckians and the relationships that shaped his life, helped to pave the way for his political rise and, during the Civil War, kept Kentucky in the Union. Taking a broad view of Lincoln, this exhibition explores the complex relationship between Abraham Lincoln and his native state.

Opening Reception Friday June 5, 5 – 9:00 – Trolley Hop Lindy & Bill Street Gallery The Center for Photographic Studies was a Louisville alternative school for creative photography founded by C.J. Pressma in 1970. During its eight-year existence, the Center attracted students from over 35 states and foreign countries to its full-time resident program and provided instruction and darkroom access for hundreds of students in the Louisville area. This exhibition will be a look back at the artistic career of C.J. Pressma.

What makes something a treasure? Is it its uniqueness, its maker or original owner or simply its visual appeal? Great Revivals: Kentucky Decorative Arts Treasures, presents significant pieces from the Kentucky Historical Society collections that have been preserved and are treasured. Exhibit Description: Casey Hyland's glass art exhibit, "Wishful Thinking", will feature artwork produced over the last three years. Using silvered bottles, clear stones, thin steel rods with glass and bubbles inside bubbles, the artwork describes moments of gazing into the mirror at a bar, stacking stones, blowing wishes with a dandelion and playing with soap bubbles. As well, Casey will also install a hanging chandelier in Glassworks' main lobby. Entitled "Offering", the silvered glass sculpture is loosely inspired by Shel Silverstein's"The Giving Tree".

The First Louisville Visual Arts Festival June 5th-July 31st 2009. The Louisville Visual Arts Festival (LVAF) is a cooperative effort engaging the best visual arts, arts organizations, galleries, and arts stake holders in the region. LVAF is an annual sustainable Festival, with a different theme each year, geared to raising awareness and the stature of the Louisville's Visual Arts community regionally, nationally and internationally.

Artist Statement: Bottles, stones, dandelions, and bubbles are the subjects of my work. Using reflective surfaces and solid clear glass in multiples, I am interested in the capture of light and arresting viewer. – Casey Hyland About the Artist: Since graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in architecture, Casey has traveled through Seattle, Tennessee, North Carolina, and New York studying and working at craft schools. Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life Temporary Exhibit, Open June – August 2009

The lazy days of summer are more affordable than ever with new specials and Rib Mania at Mark’s Feed Store. Special sandwiches and sides are light and tasty, and on Thursdays, grab your appetite and a napkin and dive into some hearty barbecued ribs.

Explore the shadow-filled streets of downtown Louisville during this 90 minute walking tour. Dressed in historic period costume, your lantern bearing guide will lead you through the dark mysteries and supernatural experiences of some of Louisville's most haunted landmarks including the Brennen House, the Old City Jail, and the Seelbach Hotel. This tour is appropriate for all ages and includes stories of the tragic spirit of the Lady In Blue, the Legend of the Stick Witch, and the mysterious apparition at the Palace Theater.

On May 16, the Frazier International History Museum opens Fontaine Ferry, a 3,800 square foot exhibition that explores this integral part of Louisville's history, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the park's closing. The exhibition will explore the park's beginnings as a boat landing in 1814, through the Great Depression and the Great Flood of 1937 to the 64-acre attraction's demise amid the effects of urban flight and racial tensions of the civil rights movement. This new exhibit celebrates Gallagher’s ‘Year of Inspiration’ as resident artist of the Ali Center’s new Dreammaker’s Program. Throughout the year, visitors to the Center were able to see the artwork being developed and to interact with the artist.

Over the course of eight classes, students learn the proper techniques for combat sword fighting used by the Frazier's own Interpretations Department. Barrett Cooper, Curator of Historic Interpretations, and Eric Frantz, Interpreter, instruct students in the art of the long sword and stage combat, utilizing fight manuals from the 14th and 15th centuries. The Frazier Museum Sword Guild supplies all weaponry and equipment needed. No prior experience is necessary. Participants must be at least 12 years of age.

For the first time, the great traditions of more than one hundred years of outrageous fashion at this infamous race will be explored and admired in one location. This exhibition will showcase the fashion of Derby winning owners, local residents, couture designers and celebrities through the decades. The exhibit will also demonstrate the impact fashion has on the Derby and the economy in Louisville. This dynamic exhibit promises to be a hit for one and all! Swords of the Americas, George E. Weatherly’s private collection of swords, sabers and related artifacts from the United States, Canada and various South American countries, is a fascinating glimpse into the past. Through the exhibition, Weatherly—a scholar, collector and past president of the American Society of Arms Collectors-- shares his passion for this area of study and collecting that is often neglected.
