The Louisville Orchestra presents the Summer Classics Series on three Thursdays at 7pm in July at the Sandy Allen Fine Arts Center on the Ballard High School campus. Tickets are $10 and available at the door or by calling 502.587.8681. The three Thursday concerts will be repeated on Saturdays at 7pm in July at RiverStage in Jeffersonville, IN where a suggested donation of $10 will be accepted. To kick off the Summer Classics Series, the Orchestra will perform Independence Day favorites at RiverStage on Saturday, July 4 starting at 8pm.

In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Opening Reception Friday June 5, 5 – 9:00 – Trolley Hop Lindy & Bill Street Gallery The Center for Photographic Studies was a Louisville alternative school for creative photography founded by C.J. Pressma in 1970. During its eight-year existence, the Center attracted students from over 35 states and foreign countries to its full-time resident program and provided instruction and darkroom access for hundreds of students in the Louisville area. This exhibition will be a look back at the artistic career of C.J. Pressma.

Exhibit Description: Casey Hyland's glass art exhibit, "Wishful Thinking", will feature artwork produced over the last three years. Using silvered bottles, clear stones, thin steel rods with glass and bubbles inside bubbles, the artwork describes moments of gazing into the mirror at a bar, stacking stones, blowing wishes with a dandelion and playing with soap bubbles. As well, Casey will also install a hanging chandelier in Glassworks' main lobby. Entitled "Offering", the silvered glass sculpture is loosely inspired by Shel Silverstein's"The Giving Tree".

An Exhibition of hand-colored black and white photographs documenting 40 year of travel to Kenya. By Fritz Klemperer. As a conscientious objector the Vietnam War, Fritz Klemperer began serving his two year alternative service in Kenya. He joined the merchant marine, drove an ambulance and taught school. Since then, Klemperer has returned to Kenya six times in over 40 years. Klemperer is a psychologist who lives with his wife and three children in Berea, Ohio.

On May 16, the Frazier International History Museum opens Fontaine Ferry, a 3,800 square foot exhibition that explores this integral part of Louisville's history, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the park's closing. The exhibition will explore the park's beginnings as a boat landing in 1814, through the Great Depression and the Great Flood of 1937 to the 64-acre attraction's demise amid the effects of urban flight and racial tensions of the civil rights movement. Tai Chi in Nature Thursdays, April 16 – June 25 Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest offers a valuable sanctuary for creating a healthier mind, body and spirit any time of the year. This spring, Bernheim is enhancing these benefits of nature with Tai Chi classes. Mfundishi Baba Serikali will be teaching an introductory course in the Yang Style 24 posture form of Tai Chi Chuan, including stretching, breath work and meditation.
