This exhibition highlights the remarkable works of William "Bill" Hancock, a well-known New Albany painter, and also includes works by his daughter Nancy Hancock Shallers. Independent curator Estill Curtis Pennington will speak about several George Morrison portraits in the Library's gallery, followed by the unveiling of a recently restored Morrison portrait of George Henry Devol. Pennington will discuss the Devol portrait, and Christine Devol Wardlow, Devol's great granddaughter, will speak about George Henry and the Devol family's extensive history in New Albany. In conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s extraordinary life.
