Active KJHS clubs and those interested in joining are invited to discover this 19th-century communal, religious society at the country’s largest restored Shaker community. Students will explore 14 original Shaker buildings, hear a musical performance in the 1820 meeting house and learn about everyday life in the “Fall on the Farm” program where demonstrators will be engaged in broom-making, wood-working, spinning and weaving. A small group diabetes class will meet at Baptist Hospital East for two sets of classes. The first will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 3 and end on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The class will be in the second-floor Education Center of the hospital, 4000 Kresge Way. The afternoon classes will be from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Insurance will be billed for the class fee. Brad Alstrom of the Lost River Community Co-op in Paoli, Indiana will share the story of how their co-op began and how it thrives today. Alstrom is General Manager of the co-op’s full-service, natural grocery and deli. The co-op’s mission statement says, “We are a member-owned association dedicated to serving the needs of local growers, producers, and consumers by providing goods, services, and healthy food choices at fair value. Lynn's Paradise Café hosted the 12th annual Ugly Lamp Contest, which included the born ugly and made ugly categories, as well as the new Leg Lamp category created especially for Actors Theatre's production of A Christmas Story. Lamps will be displayed at the Kentucky State Fair August 20 - 30. After the contest entrants may pick up their lamps at Lynn's, or are invited to donate their lamps for display at Actors Theatre and Lynn's Paradise Café.
