The Derby City Fly Fishers will host the Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show on Sat., Jan. 30, 2009, 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m. at the Fern Valley Road Hotel and Conference Center located at 2715 Fern Valley Road. The show will include over 80 exhibits, educational seminars, and is expected to draw over 1000 men, women, and children from a vast majority of the eastern United States.

Over the course of a weekend you and a team of game makers will build a computer game from paper prototype to finished marvel. The game theme will be given to you on the first day of the event - what you do with the theme is your choice.

The 16th annual African American Art Exhibition at Actors Theatre of Louisville will be on display from January 25 - February 22, 2010. The exhibition will run concurrent with the theatrical production of Ella. Each year, over 20,000 theatre and arts patrons view the exhibition, which has become a popular highlight of the region’s visual arts season. On February 5, 2010 awards will be presented at a reception honoring artists. These awards include a Brown-Forman Corporation purchase award as well as other purchase/merit prizes. Last year, more than $6,000 was awarded!

The Water Tower Regional, first held in 1909, is the oldest competitive juried art exhibition in the Southeast and Midwest regions. Hosted by the Louisville Visual Art Association, Kentucky's oldest arts organization, the exhibition will feature artwork from artists in Kentucky and surrounding states. This exhibit features artists from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Opening reception on January 24. Over $5,000 in cash awards will be presented at the reception along with a lecture by juror Churchill Davenport.

Beginning the week of Jan. 18, the Baptist Hospital East Cancer Care Center will offer a Cancer and Restorative Exercise (CARE) group session for those diagnosed with cancer in 2009. In the program, personal trainers specially instructed in working with cancer patients will design a workout for each participant. Come learn the fun, ancient, and beautiful art of fusing and slumping glass. Utilizing heat, gravity, and time students will create an array of fused and slumped creations. This is a great class for people interested in learning the technical basics of kiln working. Learn about scoring glass, melting temperatures, annealing, and many more technical tips. Tools and materials will be provided; however if students have glass cutting tools they are comfortable with they are welcome to bring them. No previous glass working experience is necessary.

Learn a heat-free way to work with glass. In this two part class you will create an abstract design using small pre-cut pieces of glass. The next day you will grout your tray to finish your functional work of art. Each tray is 13 x 19 x 1 ½ inches. No previous glass working, tiling or grouting experience is necessary.
