Sept 11th and 12th in Louisville KY will be the site of the First Annual Clydesdale Games!  This event is to feature the heavier athlete.  Males must be 205lbs to compete and females must be 135lbs.  There will be weight classes for both men and women; most likely 3 classes per gender. This is being designed not to eliminate the smaller guy and make competition easier, but for the larger athlete to be able to compete with people closer to their size and physical abilities.

Fleur de Liberties, a benefit for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky (ACLU of KY), will be held Saturday evening September 11th from 9pm - 2am at the Monkey Wrench, 1025 Barret Avenue.   The Fleur de Liberties benefit will bring together local musicians and businesses to support and celebrate our nation’s foremost defender of civil liberties while mobilizing young Louisvillians on such issues as LGBTQ rights, immigrants’ rights, abolition of the death penalty, restoration of voting rights, and reproductive justice among others.

Between James and Kay Grubola their exhibitions have been numerous, but presenting together as a two-person exhibit will be a first in twenty-five years. Diane has appeared in the hit series, Medium and has starred in the independent film, "Loving Annabelle" for which she won the Best Actress award at Outfest in 2006. The Brown Hotel invites classical music lovers to enjoy Sunday Tea in the Grand Lobby. A weekly tradition at The Brown Hotel, the Sunday Classical Hour is free to the public from 4:00 to 5:00 pm and features Ms. Nada Loutfi playing the music of the greatest piano composers. Ms. Loutfi is a native of Beirut, Lebanon, and a heralded pianist in her homeland. She is the founder of the Purely Piano series and has been a featured soloist of The Louisville Orchestra's MasterWorks Series and performs internationally.

Peter Gooch's inspiration for this most recent body of work comes from his University Research Institute sponsored sabbatical taken in Ethiopia in 2009. Gooch’s stunning abstract work consists of series of strips of paintings that playfully shift in light, color and form embodying Gooch's impressions of the decorative motifs found in ancient Ethiopian art, artifacts and architecture. Contrasting the organic nature found within each of the individual strips is their geometric application, creating subtle tension and intrigue between the jumps in palettes.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host “Equine Divine” from August 7 through October 16, 2010. Fitting for an organization in the heart of the horse industry, this exhibition will feature work by two artists, Deborah Butterfield and Tim Flach, who are inspired by our equine companions. There will also be a small selection of equine inspired prints and drawings from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and The Purdue University Galleries. The opening reception will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Trolley Hop on Friday, August 6th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host “Red River: The Narrative Carvings of Edgar Tolson, Donny Tolson, Carl McKenzie and Earnest Patton,” July 24 through October 9, 2010. This is exhibition No. 9 in the Mary Norton Shands Kentucky Artist Series, an ongoing series of exhibitions which focus on the rich variety and quality of Kentucky art and artists, presented in the memory of our Museum founder. The opening reception will be held Friday, July 23rd from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

21c Museum unveils three pieces by Simen Johan that have never before been on public view in a ten-year survey of the artist’s work. The two photographs and one sculpture to be displayed for the first time are new additions to Johan’s "Until the Kingdom Comes" series. The exhibition features 21 photographs and sculptures—including works from the artist’s earlier series "Evidence of Things Unseen"—and will be on view at 21c Museum Hotel from July 2 through October 4.
