Purse Strings is a free educational workshop designed to help woman take control of their financial future. The topic this session will be "Tips for Budgeting and Money Management." Cold connection techniques including hand-forged rivets, tabs and jump rings will be utlized to connect pieces of metal as well as other materials for creating one-of-a-kind jewelry such as pendants, earrings or bracelets. You'll use a jeweler's saw to cut shapes out of copper and brass sheet and learn simple ways to add texture and form for surface interest. This class will utilize readily available tools and materials so you can continue to make jewelry at home

Explore the fundamentals of drawing using dry (charcoal, graphite) and wet (ink) monochromatic media. You also will study the visual possibilities of contour, mass, proportion, light and shadow as well as the expressive potential of their materials.

Discover what good poetry is by analyzing great poems and using them as stepping stones to write your own. We’ll examine classic poems by classic writers new and old. Equal time will be spent between studying great poetry and reading and discussing each other’s work. Please bring paper, pens, pencils and a favorite poem to the first class.

This introduction to the Spanish language covers basic vocabulary, grammar, and cultural information. No previous knowledge of Spanish is required or expected.

Learn metalsmithing basics using a jeweler's saw, wire bending and metal shaping, basic soldering and finishing to create a jewelry design in brass or copper. Come with a simple shape in mind for your first piece of wearable art! Sterling silver to fashion one band is included in the fee.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host “Equine Divine” from August 7 through October 16, 2010. Fitting for an organization in the heart of the horse industry, this exhibition will feature work by two artists, Deborah Butterfield and Tim Flach, who are inspired by our equine companions. There will also be a small selection of equine inspired prints and drawings from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and The Purdue University Galleries. The opening reception will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Trolley Hop on Friday, August 6th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host “Red River: The Narrative Carvings of Edgar Tolson, Donny Tolson, Carl McKenzie and Earnest Patton,” July 24 through October 9, 2010. This is exhibition No. 9 in the Mary Norton Shands Kentucky Artist Series, an ongoing series of exhibitions which focus on the rich variety and quality of Kentucky art and artists, presented in the memory of our Museum founder. The opening reception will be held Friday, July 23rd from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

21c Museum unveils three pieces by Simen Johan that have never before been on public view in a ten-year survey of the artist’s work. The two photographs and one sculpture to be displayed for the first time are new additions to Johan’s "Until the Kingdom Comes" series. The exhibition features 21 photographs and sculptures—including works from the artist’s earlier series "Evidence of Things Unseen"—and will be on view at 21c Museum Hotel from July 2 through October 4.
