With her insider knowledge of horse racing, Wall constructs a unique history on the building of a Thoroughbred industry in late-nineteenth-century Kentucky, the period immediately after the Civil War.

The Frazier Museum presents "Pony Express, Revisited," a re-examination of history and a present-day photographic observation of the famous route that lives on in the American imagination. This series of photographs captures the poetry and irony of America’s past and present westward expansion, while referencing its romanticism and the urgency of communication. This mini-exhibition opens in time to mark the 150th anniversary of the first ride of the Pony Express, as well as the 2010 Equestrian World Games in Lexington, Ky.

The new show will open on the eve of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and rotate new pieces the first of November for the 2010 Breeders Cup weekend. This writing workshop is designed for beginners who want to write for children and for experienced scribes who want to try a new genre. You’ll learn about copyright, rewrites, manuscripts, query letters, guidelines, tags, beginnings and endings, publishing and more. Please bring two sheets of writing paper, two #10 envelopes and two first-class postage stamps to class.

This class will focus on the potential that the local landscape offers for visual expression in paint. You'll receive instruction in linear and atmospheric perspective; long and short depth of field; light, color, time of day and season; and the horizon--water, sky and ground. You will work to produce a small number of paintings that successfully translate their landscapes.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host “Equine Divine” from August 7 through October 16, 2010. Fitting for an organization in the heart of the horse industry, this exhibition will feature work by two artists, Deborah Butterfield and Tim Flach, who are inspired by our equine companions. There will also be a small selection of equine inspired prints and drawings from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and The Purdue University Galleries. The opening reception will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Trolley Hop on Friday, August 6th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host “Red River: The Narrative Carvings of Edgar Tolson, Donny Tolson, Carl McKenzie and Earnest Patton,” July 24 through October 9, 2010. This is exhibition No. 9 in the Mary Norton Shands Kentucky Artist Series, an ongoing series of exhibitions which focus on the rich variety and quality of Kentucky art and artists, presented in the memory of our Museum founder. The opening reception will be held Friday, July 23rd from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

21c Museum unveils three pieces by Simen Johan that have never before been on public view in a ten-year survey of the artist’s work. The two photographs and one sculpture to be displayed for the first time are new additions to Johan’s "Until the Kingdom Comes" series. The exhibition features 21 photographs and sculptures—including works from the artist’s earlier series "Evidence of Things Unseen"—and will be on view at 21c Museum Hotel from July 2 through October 4.
