The Kentucky Derby is run every year on the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs. The race is 1.25 miles long and often called the "Fastest Two Minutes in Sports," or the "Run for the Roses." A field of 20 three-year-old thoroughbreds will compete to win this first leg in the Triple Crown in 2012, which marks the 138th running of this timeless sporting tradition.
