On Monday, January 19, 2009 a new staple event in our community driving the need to foster greater cross-cultural bonds. Metro Louisville is home to over 91 immigrant countries represented. Over 80 languages are spoken in our school district. Therefore, key-note speakers from various cultures will address our audience. In its efforts, this community awareness event is being held on the observation holiday, commemorating the peace-making efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Last year’s theme was “My Unified Louisville.” The format for this year’s event will hold true to that spirit. However, due to the recent success of the ‘MY WORLD’ Talks Series and with the consiousness the political climate has brought to America, this year’s theme is “One Nation.” Again, representatives from diverse cultures will address the crowd of approximately 600 (African American, Asian American, Caucasian and Hispanic American). 2009 speakers include Mr. Kevin Connelly, Executive Director of The Center for Nonprofit Excellece, Valerie Chinn of FOX 41 and Mr. Ben Ruiz, CEO of Adhawks Advertising & Public Relations. The one addition this year will be an added emphasis on bridging the gap between Baby Boomers and Generation X, as the transference of responsibility is fast approaching. Baby Boomers out number Generation Xers by 40 million. This shift will significantly impact our nation.
