THE DR. ED MORGAN/KIWANIS GRAND SLAM 4 MILE RUN/WALK
TO BENEFIT BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS
Saturday, July 21, 2012, hundreds of athletes will compete in the ninth annual Dr. Ed Morgan/Kiwanis Grand Slam 4 Mile Run/Walk, with proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.
The race is named in honor of Dr. Edgar Morgan, Sr., a well-known Louisville family physician and long-time member of the Kiwanis Club. In his retirement, at the age of 66, Dr. Morgan took up running and soon completed his first of many marathons, including the prestigious New York and Boston Marathons. Dr. Morgan became an advocate for the Louisville running community, and went on to compete in hundreds of area road races well into his
Dr. Morgan co-founded the Louisville Kiwanis Grand Slam 4 Mile race in 2003 with Graham Honaker and was an active participant until his passing at age 92 in 2011.
Proceeds from the race event will benefit both Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana and The Heuser Hearing and Language Academy.
Registration for the Dr. Ed Morgan/Kiwanis Grand Slam 4 Mile Run/Walk is available at www.RiverCityRaces.com through Wednesday, July 18. Walk in registration is available at Fleet Feet Sports, 2239 Taylorsville Road (502.479.URUN) through 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20.
The USATF-sanctioned race gets underway at 8:00 a.m. July 21 at Louisville Slugger Field. All registrants will receive a race t-shirt and one ticket to Saturday evening’s Louisville Bats baseball game against the Pawtucket Red Sox at 6:05 p.m. (additional tickets may be purchased for just $3 each.)
The overall top male and female race finishers will receive a Louisville Slugger baseball bat and will throw out the first pitch at the Bats game Saturday evening. The top three male and female finishers in each age group will also receive awards.
The awards presentation will begin at 9:15 a.m. at Slugger Field, and a free pancake breakfast will take place there as well.
