Gallery at the Brown is prepping a show of winners for the Derby lover as this year’s featured art exhibit. Equine works by painter Donna B will be unveiled at a special Kentucky Derby-themed opening reception on Friday, April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The show runs through May 19.
Donna B found that her passion for horses stirred her artistic expression as a child. She combines mediums to evoke the movement and energy of horses in large scale works of equine art. Much of the time, her hands never hit the canvas. Instead acrylics, water or inks are splashed, sprayed and thrown to create contemporary forms of the classically beautiful animals.
As an added bonus, Nashville designer and socialite Elizabeth Scokin will open a pop-up shop with her ultra chic hostess aprons – the perfect accessory for Derby party planner – during the opening reception. Scokin’s one-of-a-kind Haute Hostess line of aprons and home goods are made from vintage cocktail dress materials with high-end embellishments. Not available anywhere else in Louisville, the coveted items, which have gained international attention from Oprah Winfrey and top fashion editors, make their debut at this art and style event.
Gallery at The Brown features local artists quarterly to bring awareness to Kentucky’s visual arts scene. Located on the first floor of the hotel, Gallery at the Brown Hotel is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
