Five years ago, four displaced jazz musicians from New Orleans played traditional classical New Orleans Jazz at four vastly different performances in Louisville.  And for one weekend in 2005, the Louisville community gave them home and a place to play their music, away from the Katrina tragedy.
Five years later, Dr. Michael White, the legendary clarinet player, is returning to Louisville to again lead a quartet of world-renowned musicians to raise money for the Gulf efforts that are not covered by BP.
Cantor David Lipp of Congregation Adath Jeshurun: "I was thrilled how the citizens and businesses in Kentucky supported and helped these musicians whose livelihood has been taken away by Hurricane Katrina.  Now the Gulf region is being ruined again and we need to help."
The musicians, who have played in Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and across the world, will play at various venues across Louisville, including a free concert on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Congregation Adath Jeshurun.  More information on the concerts will be posted and updated on the synagogue's website www.adathjeshurun.com/jazz
Cantor Lipp: "Despite the hard economic times in this community, we all desperately want to help this region.  The charities are being carefully chosen to ensure that all the monies raised go to preeminent charities that provide the best care for both the residents of the area and the wildlife that are also being destroyed."
All donations and sponsorships are tax deduction and the proceed will go to The Gulf Oil Spill Fund, supported by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and the National Wildlife Federation's "Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund".
