Rockin' at Bernheim!
Sometimes living in the past can be fascinating. This free event will allow you to observe the ancient art of flint knapping and view some of the decorative natural rocks used in this process. Flint knapping is a million year-old process of making stone arrowheads, projectile points, axes and other tools. Today, few people are familiar with this art, and even fewer people, in remote parts of the world, knap for survival purposes as part of their daily lives. Now people collect this "functional art." At this event, local flint knapping artists will gather to swap and sell the unique rocks used for this process and demonstrate the art of flint knapping. Each year in July, Bernheim is the site of the Central Kentucky Knap In, hosted by Dale Farris, one of the region's most renowned flint knappers. This popular, weekend event includes artisans from states throughout the region and is appropriate for both children and adults.
