The Filson Historical Society is proud to present Filson Fridays. Meet our staff as they share the results of their research in The Filson Collections. Enjoy this summer programming every Friday at noon. On July 30, Associate Curator of Special Collections Michael Veach will look at early Kentucky distilling methods and products and how the modern distiller can learn from Kentucky’s distilling heritage. There is a growing interest in “Craft” or “Artisan” distilleries in America. These small distilleries can benefit a great deal from the problem-solving of 19th century Kentucky farmer distillers. These early distillers faced many of the same issues that modern craft distillers face. One of the most pressing problems was what to do with their newly made spirit that would allow the distillers to get it to the market quickly. Cherry Bounce, Blackberry Cordial and charcoal filtering are just some of the ways the early Kentucky distillers improved their product for sale to consumers. This lecture will begin at noon at The Filson Historical Society. There is no cost for this event, though reservations are suggested. You may reserve your seat by visiting www.filsonhistorical.org or by calling The Filson at (502) 635-5083.
