Japan/America Society of Kentucky to Host “JAPAN! Summer Festival” in Lexington, KY
Lexington, KY – 8 March 2009 – Today the Japan/America Society announces plans for its annual festival of Japanese culture.
The event brings Japan and the Bluegrass together through musical and martial art performances, traditional story telling, and even a Wii Tournament. “Bring the family,” suggests organizing committee member, Matt Krebs. “People of all ages will find something to enjoy.”
Come to the festival to experience:
• Taiko performances
• Japanese calligraphy
• Gyoza, harumaki, yakisoba and other Japanese foods
• Ikebana/flower arrangement
• Soran dances
Judging by last year’s 1000 person attendance, regional interest in Japan runs deep. Thousands of Kentuckians work for Japanese companies and alongside Japanese nationals. Many thousands more spend summer afternoons picnicking in Japanese-themed Yuko-en parks. Local high school and college students spent hours studying Japanese language.
“Few places have as many outlets for Japanese culture as Kentucky,” says Krebs. “In fact, we hope this year to double last year’s attendance.”
JAPAN! Summer Festival will take place:
August 22, 2009 (Saturday)
1:00-7:00pm
Jacobson Park, Lexington
Admission: Free
