Jazz and gospel singer Toni Deckers of Fishers, IN, will be the headliner for Sleepy Hollow in downtown Vevay, IN. The event takes place on Sat., Oct. 6 from 9am-4pm around the courthouse square. Deckers will perform under the gazebo from noon until 3pm.
Singing since a young child, Deckers is equally at home performing popular jazz standards in clubs, as well as gospel songs and traditional hymns—having started her career by singing in church. With a limited number of record albums available to her through her parent’s collection, Deckers fell in love with artists such as Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby and Peggy Lee.
With a unique sound that is described ‘as smooth and rich like a good piece of chocolate that melts in your mouth’ Deckers style has a comfortable familiarity that is perfect for traditional jazz music.
“Loving jazz music at a young age didn’t make me one of the coolest kids in school, but I didn’t care because it shaped who I am as an adult,” Deckers comments in her bio. “There is something with this music I really connect with—traditional jazz music gives me a warm fuzzy feeling and brings me a sense of happiness and contentment with life.”
Deckers has performed in local talents shows, farmers markets and sat in with the Cool City Jazz Band at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis. She is currently working on a CD that pays tribute to songs from her childhood. She has other projects in the works too, including a Cole Porter tribute.

Vevay’s Sleepy Hollow event will also feature arts and crafts around the courthouse square, an antique tractor show, apple and pumpkin pie baking contest, roaming Headless Horseman, and a pet parade.
