The Louisville Orchestra Presents: LOUISVILLE Thursday, September 30, 2010 10:30am • Friday, October 1, 2010 8pm • Brown Theatre Jorge Mester, conductor • Lee Luvisi, piano Program: Witold Lutosławski Fanfare for Louisville Elliott Carter Variations for Orchestra Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-Flat Major, op. 73 Louisville, KY (August 26, 2010)… Louisville owes its rise to prominence in the 20th century to more than just the Kentucky Derby! The world over, some say Louisville was known most for the international broadcasts of the Orchestra’s landmark recordings. In tribute to the Music Makes A City documentary, the Louisville Orchestra marks this program with a collection of essential connections to our city. Carter’s “Variations” is the most performed work ever commissioned by the Orchestra, and Lutosławski was the very first recipient of Louisville’s famous Grawemeyer Award for music composition in 1985. Louisville native Lee Luvisi has appeared with the Orchestra more than any other solo artist in history, will join the stage for the famed “Emperor” Concerto. See the LOUISVILLE concert at the Brown Theatre on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10:30am and Friday, October 1, 2010 at 8pm. Louisville Orchestra subscriptions range from $133-$680.
