The New York Times hails The Moth as "the most popular showcase" of storytelling, a new art that has been "growing rapidly over the past decade."
10 stories, 3 teams of judges, 1 winner. The Moth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. At each StorySLAM, The Moth provides a stage, a microphone, a theme, and a host to guide the festivities. Storytellers toss their name into a hat and wait for their chance to share a true, crafted story from their life. If chosen, they have five minutes to regale the crowd. StorySLAM winners go on to compete in the Louisville GrandSLAM championship. No notes or scripts- just pure, old-fashioned, unadulterated storytelling.
Upcoming Louisville Moth StorySLAM: Tuesday, April 24th at Headliners Music Hall. Theme: DERBY. The prep, the parties, the aftermath. Romances, brawls and babies born during The Race of the Roses. The winning horse or the winning hat. The long build-up to those crucial 2 minutes and what remains when the dust clears. Decadent and depraved or decorous and dignified, bring tales of DERBY! Come tell your own story, or just come listen! Doors open at 7pm, stories begin at 8pm. Tickets available at themoth.org
