“For Colored Girls…” is a live stage play that expresses the many struggles and obstacles that African-American women face throughout their lives. This production captures the brutal, tender, and dramatic lives of contemporary Black Women.

Rush Trowel Entertainment (RTE) presents “For Colored Girls…” November 17th &18th 2012 at the Ursuline Arts Center. “For Colored Girls…” is a live stage play that expresses that many struggles and obstacles that African-American women face throughout their lives. This production captures the brutal, tender, and dramatic lives of contemporary Black Women. The tickets are $20 for premium seating and $16 for general seating.

In honor of the critically acclaimed play and movie, RTE brings to you Local Louisville talent portraying the characters as written by Ntozake Shange.
"For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf" expresses the many struggles and obstacles that African-American women face throughout their lives. The production deals with love, abandonment, rape, and abortion, embodied by each woman's story. This groundbreaking "choreopoem" is a spellbinding collection of vivid prose and free verse narratives about and performed by Black women. Capturing the brutal, tender and dramatic lives of contemporary Black women, "For Colored Girls..." offers a transformative, riveting evening of provocative dance, music and poetry. "For Colored Girls..." has excited, inspired, and transformed audiences all over the country. Passionate and fearless, Shange's words reveal what it is to be of color and female.

“For Colored Girls…” originally began Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in May 1976 before transferring to Broadway in September of that same year. The production went on tour for two years immediately following its Broadway success and was recently released in 2010 as a major motion picture.
