Join us in welcoming the Monks of the Drepung Gomang Monastery as they create a Medicine Buddha Sand Mandala, the Healing Buddha, to invoke healing of the mind and body and promote well-being. The ancient Buddhist art of 'sand painting' is a time consuming, delicate process of creating an intricate design using millions of colored sand particles. The monks will be working on the mandala for 6 hrs a day over 5 days. This 6-day long event includes Opening Ceremonies, informal conversation & socializing as the mandala is created and formal Closing Ceremonies, including prayers, chanting, deconstruction of the mandala and sharing of the blessed sand.
