The 16h annual Komen Louisville Race for the Cure®, presented by Kroger takes place this Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Waterfront Park. The Race for the Cure® raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Last year’s event attracted more than 10,000 people and raised nearly $700,000.
In celebration of the upcoming Race for the Cure, Komen Louisville encourages everyone to Wear Pink Wednesday and join us in a community-wide Pink-Out this Wednesday, October 5. Need something Pink to wear…not a problem! Visit the Komen Store in Oxmoor Center where you can find lots of Pink! Don’t forget, men get breast cancer, too, and real men aren’t afraid to wear pink! About Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the Komen Louisville Affiliate
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. The Louisville Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community joining more than 1 million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen Louisville Race for the Cure®, the Louisville Affiliate has invested nearly $4 Million in community breast health programs in their 8-county service area. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in the Louisville area community. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research. For more information, call 502-584-CURE or visit komenlouisville.org.
