Derby City Film Festival in review [Movies]

Derby City Film Festival in review [Movies]
A weekend chock-full of some of the finest independent film from around the country and the world.

It is said that independent film is the future of the movies. It makes sense; while mainstream, big-budget film certainly is capable of producing some astounding works, just as often we see tons of needless remakes, reboots, and recycled formulas. Independent film gives greater opportunity for originality and new talent to shine through.

Authors Sam and Debbie Thomas share the stores of Crescent Hill at The Filson
The Crescent Hill neighborhood gets touted again! Join local authors Sam and Debbie Thomas at The Filson tomorrow, Tuesday February 21st, at 6pm as they share the stories that contributed to the creation of their popular books.

So, just how cool is Crescent Hill?  Make no mistake, the popular and eclectic borough has definitely won both Louisville’s local love and literary laud.  As one of Louisville’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods – that also just happens to have the added bonus of some seriously sweet independent spirit – it’s not surprising that both loyals and admirers alike share an interest.  So, how cool is cool?  It’s history for the hip.

Carmichael’s hosts acclaimed young-adult novelist, Silas House, at the Clifton Center [Books]

Carmichael’s hosts acclaimed young-adult novelist, Silas House, at the Clifton C
Carmichael’s Bookstore is pleased to host a reading and signing with author Silas House this coming Monday, February 20th, at The Clifton Center. Starting at 7pm, mix and mingle with the author as he celebrates the release of his latest venture in young-adult fiction, ‘Same Sun Here’.

Young-adult fiction – like a good scientific theory – has elements that all come together to create what should, logically, be an ultimately sound reading experience for those sub-adult humans not quite ready to head straight for David Foster Wallace.  In theory, young-adult fiction should be a positive literary excursion as our youthful selves test the tepid waters of adulthood.  In theory.  It has been most unfortunate that many painful and

Wild and Woolly Film Series presents 'El Capitan' [Movies]

Come to the Clifton Center tonight to see the acclaimed rock climbing documentary.

The western United States are home to some of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Tourists and outdoorsmen (and women) travel hundreds of miles for vacation and thrills. One of the most popular rock climbing destinations lies in this area. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Yosemite Valley sits El Capitan, which extends to 3000 feet at its tallest point.

One of the monolith’s faces is known as The Nose. It was once thought impossible to scale, but is now one of the most popular spots to scale.
