The 23rd Annual WING DING @ The Bard's Town

2013 Pegasus Parade

The 2013 Pegasus Parade marches down Broadway on Thursday, May 2, at 5 p.m. This family-friendly annual event showcases some of the nation’s finest marching bands and equestrian units, along with inflatable characters and colorful floats that are designed and decorated to reflect the 2013 theme, “Now, That’s Entertainment!” Led by the “Peggy Bank” inflatable Pegasus balloon, the parade marches west on Broadway for 17 blocks and lasts approximately two hours.

Taste of the Oaks 2013

Capture the excitement of the Oaks and Kentucky Derby. Taste the finest bourbons, wines and cuisine. Enjoy an evening of live music, dancing and a silent auction. Must be over 21 to attend.   Dress smart casual.  More than 900 people attend this pre-Oaks and Derby party.  The event sells out quickly.

All the proceeds benefit Easter Seals of Louisville's nonprofit pediatric rehabilitation center.

100 Black Men of Louisville Derby Gala

The 22nd annual Kentucky Derby Festival® 100 Black Men of Louisville Derby Gala will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center in the Cascade Ballroom. The featured entertainment will be R&B recording artist Keith Sweat. The attire for the event is formal.

The 100 Black Men of Louisville offers financial assistance to students in their high school mentoring program to assist them in entering college. The organization’s collegiate 100 mentoring program helps students continue their pursuit of academic excellence at University of Louisville, Kentucky State University, and University of Kentucky. In order to be eligible for selection, youths must excel in school, stay off drugs and act as Big Brothers and Big Sisters and peer leaders at their respective schools. Some of the students are chosen to participate in national academic competitions and their travel expenses are paid. The 100 chapter has opened its doors to African American females at the university level.

Switzerland County Visitors Center Bicentennial Wine Tasting

Tom and Mary Jane Demaree of The Ridge Winery will present a free wine tasting of the Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial wine at the Switzerland County Visitors Center during the May First Friday. The Demarees’ have produced a sweet red grape blend table wine in celebration of the Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial. The wine is presented in a cobalt blue bottle and features a label designed bySwitzerland County artist Donna Weaver. The Ridge Winery wine tasting is free and open to the public, although no youths will be permitted in the designated tasting area of the Visitors Center. The special edition wine will be sold for $14.95 per bottle. A 10% discount is available for four or more bottles, with a 20% discount per case or more.

35th Annual Derby Breakfast

The Historic Homes Foundation and Garden and Gun Magazine join forces to host the traditional with a twist at the 35th Annual Derby Breakfast at the Farmington Historic Plantation with traditional regional fare, bluegrass, fashion, and a touch of bourbon.

This year, breakfast guests will enjoy regional cuisine, coffee and cocktails while they explore the beautiful Farmington Historic Plantation house and gardens. Bluegrass sounds of “The Porch Possums” will have attendees tapping their feet and a casual game of croquet will be played on the lawn.

Derby Poster Artist Signing Event

Collage artist Derek Gores, who created this year's Kentucky Derby poster, will be signing his artwork on Friday and Saturday of this week at Shop at the Brown. Derek creates brilliant collage masterpieces on canvas by stripping paper from recycled magazines, labels, and other found materials. When possible, he uses materials unique to the client to enhance its customization. His works are refreshing, generate conversation, and will be something your guests will enjoy tremendously. Posters are $40 each.

27th Annual Billy's Burger Bash

Varanese Restaurant, located at 2106 Frankfort Avenue, will host the “27th Annual Billy’s Burger Bash” on Saturday, May 4 from 11:00pm to the wee hours of Sunday, May 5.
