[1] Psst. Wanna hear a secret? On very special days of the week, there's a chef in town who delivers home made soup from his bicycle.
Yes, really.
Chef Ian Ritchie has a vision wherein Louisvillians enjoy homemade soups made from locally sourced ingredients delivered with zero environmental impact. I can't get motivated to walk to the gym two blocks from my apartment, yet this man cycles across town three days a week with crazy quantities of delicious soup in tow. One part of me feels like an incredible slacker. Another feels incredibly lucky. I let the two of them fight it out over a hot bowl of Kentucky Bison Chili.
I might also be biased because acquiring soup feels like a secret Shriner ritual. First, join his Facebook page. [3] Then, email him personally with an order for soup. He'll rather conspicuously ride his bicycle to your doorstep to drop off your soup (or he can hide it in your bushes if you're afraid your theiving neighbors can't be trusted). Just don't forget to let him know where you've hidden the cash. I haven't reached the stage with the secret handshake yet, but I'm sure it's coming.
If you want a bowl or three, email him an order by Friday. Mondays, he delivers to St. Matthews and parts further east. Tuesday is for Crescent Hills, Germantown, and the Highlands. On Wednesday, he does something unthinkable - he crosses I-65 for deliveries! Truly, this man is dedicated to the cause. I have yet to spot him in person, but I bet he also has amazing calves.
