[1] Love, death, and souls are on the line in Clarksville Little Theatre's production of Once on This Island, which will premiere tomorrow.
Performances of Once on This Island will occur on Jan. 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 at 8 p.m. each night. A matinee show will go on at 2 p.m. on Jan. 9. All performances will take place at Clarksville Little Theatre, located at 301 E. Montgomery Ave. in Clarksville, IN. Tickets for the show are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens 60 years of age and over, $12 for students 13 years of age to 18, and $8 for children six years of age to 12 years. Tickets can be purchased at the door or can be reserved by calling 812-283-6522.
Once on This Island [4] features lovers of varying social classes. Ti Moune is an orphan but on a life path thanks to the Earth mother Asaka. Moune falls in love with Daniel Beauxhomme after saving him from a horrific car crash. Now, the Demon of Death, Papa Ge, forces Ti Moune to make a choice between killing Daniel or giving up her own soul.
Lynn Ahrens created the book and lyrics for Once on This Island, and Stephen Flaherty created the music. Kevin Swansey directed the production for Clarksville Little Theatre.
The show, with elements of Romeo and Juliet and Little Mermaid, was seen on Broadway for 487 performances at the Booth Theatre. The show also lasted more than 100 performances at the Royalty Theatre in London.
