[1] Trying to bring up a blues band in 1927 Chicago is not easy. Actors Theatre will begin performances of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom today.
Performances will occur from Jan. 18 until Feb. 13 on all days except Mondays. Performance times can be found on the Actors Theatre website. All performances will take place in the Pamela Brown Auditorium in Actors Theatre, located at 316 West Main Street [3] in downtown Louisville.
Ticket prices also depend on the performance time and seat choice. Purchases can be made by going to the Actors Theatre box office, the Actors Theatre website [4], or by calling the box office at 502-584-1205. Keep in mind the show contains strong language and is recommended for theatregoers aged 12 years and up.
Cultural issues and African-American life in the 20th century are at the forefront of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Ma Rainey and her blues band look for success despite the cultural struggles of 1927 Chicago and outside and internal demands on the band.
August Wilson created Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Ron OJ Parson directed the show for Actors Theatre.
Following Ma Rainey's Black Bottom will be the Humana Festival of New American Plays. The festival runs from Feb. 27-April 2, and more information on it can be found in this article [5].
