Not all history is taught in textbooks—and so UofL’s Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research is organizing a 25-member community group to delve into local racial and social justice history and to share knowledge across Metro Louisville. The Healing History Academy invites adults of all ages, races, faiths, backgrounds and neighborhoods of Jefferson County for this community group.
Participants will meet monthly from August 2011 through February 2012 to learn from local historians, educators, artists, performers and community advocates. In return, academy members commit to take what they’ve learned and turn it into an activity for their own neighborhood or workplace in early 2011.
Membership is free and open to the public, but applications are due July 1. For more information, visit http://al.comm.louisville.edu/abi/?page_id=655 or call Amber Duke at 852-6142.
