Louisville, Ky. - Recent University of Louisville grad, Meghan Little won the Fifth Third Bank Women's Kentucky Open yesterday at the London Country Club. It was her first event as a pro since finishing her career as a Cardinal this spring. The all-conference performer shook off a sluggish front nine, made three birdies on the final nine holes and won the ninth annual event by three strokes for her second Open win in three years.
"It feels great," Little said. "I just started hitting a lot better iron shots. The front nine, it just seemed like I was in between clubs on a lot of irons. I got a couple better yardages, and that helped a lot. It was good because I knew I had to fire right at the flags."
She made bogey on three of the first six holes before a birdie at No. 7 and another bogey at No. 8. On the front nine, Little shot a 38 and hit just two greens in regulation after hitting all nine greens in regulation on the front Tuesday.
Little was solid through the final nine holes. She stuck it tight on Nos. 12, 15 and 17 and made the birdie putts to get back to even par.
She's only the second player to win the event multiple times. Cathy Edelen won in 1999 and 2000.
