An Iron Chef type competition will pit local culinary greats against each other with the hopes of being designated "Best of the Best". The Chefs will compete to raise money for Sullivan University Hospitality Scholarship.
The Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter of Meeting Professionals International will present the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Battle of the Best “A Culinary Experience”, Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Brown & Williamson Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.Festivities will begin at at the club located at 2800 South Floyd Street, Louisville, KY.Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.The event is a fundraiser for a SullivanUniversity hospitality scholarship.
The event features around an iron-chef style chef challenge where area chefs compete to be named the Best of the Best. SullivanUniversity hospitality students assist the chefs as prep and sous chefs.The chefs participating in the challenge are Matthew Purzycki of L& N Wine Bar and Bistro, Michael Hargrove,Primo, Chris Howerton, of Corbett’s Restaurant.A panel of celebrity judges will select the winning chef including Kirby Adams, WHAS-TV News; the Honorable Jerry J. Bowles, Jefferson County Family Court Judge; Kelly K., of the Peter B. and Kelly K. Show, 99.7 WDJX; Stan Curtis, Founder, USA Harvest and KY Harvest/Sr. VP Hilliard Lyons; Robert Granberg, Gordon Food Service (GFS) Executive Chef; Shannon Byrne, President, Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter of Meeting Professionals International; and a member of the audience will be chosen at the event.
The audience will participate in the event by sampling and choosing the winners of the Best Martini, Best Catering Culinary Presentation and the Best Catering Cuisine.The caterers participating in the event include: The Brown Hotel, Centerplate Catering, Chardeaus Classic Catering, Consumers Choice Coffee, Hyatt Regency Louisville, Kentucky State Parks, Masterpiece Creations, Louisville Marriott Downtown, University Club and Juleps Catering. Area bartenders from Equus Restaurant, Park Place on Main, L&N Wine Bar and Bistro and Primo will be mixing their best martini using Finlandia’s Grapefruit Fusion Vodka.
