Sometimes I find Italian food a little too heavy for the warmer months—we are weeks from bikini season and my midsection is still as doughy as a half cooked cinnamon roll. Volare , on Frankfort Avenue, has clearly anticipated this need for lighter springier fare, as they have introduced some new menu items specifically for the season. Of course, Volare will still be serving the Prime Italian food it always does (including the best darn pasta in town) with a side of panache.
The seasonal risotto (pictured!) has LOBSTER. That sweet, succulent meat should blend so well with a classic creamy risotto--absolutely mouthwatering! Other new entries to the menu include an Estiva salad with baby lettuce (grown in our good old Kentucky home), roasted pear, brie and sugared hazelnuts in a strawberry vinaigrette dressing—just the ticket for a lighter dinner, and paired with some of the more (ahem!) alcoholic options at Volare (they have a giant room with bunches of bottles stashed in cubbies along the wall. HEAVEN! ) it could make a fabulous treat. There is also Capellini alla Polo, a grilled chicken with sundried tomatoes, olives, feta and pesto.
The Chef at Volare, Josh Moore, will be adding more local and seasonal offerings as the season ripens his harvest from his 10 acre farm in Taylorsville! Nothing freshens up a restaurant’s offerings like more seasonal and local choices; shouldn’t every restaurant practice this revolving menu of offerings specific to the region and season and freshness of available items? I am terribly excited to see what new delights are in store at Volare!
