1. Jocktails is a fundraiser for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, not a gay porn
Wednesday night at Prime Lounge (104 W. Main St.), Woodford Reserve bourbon is hosting the fourth annual Jocktails Celebrity Jockey Bartending Charity Event [3]. Star jockeys including Julien Leparoux, Jon Court, Robby Albarado, Rajiv Maragh, James Graham and John Velazquez will be pouring drinks, with all bar tips benefiting the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund [4].
The invite-only event runs from 7-10 p.m. with doors opening to the public at 10 p.m. for a $10 donation. Jocktails at Breeders' Cup 2011 raised $3,091 for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. Other sponsors are the J Wagner Group, Three Chimneys Farm, and 102.3 The Max.
The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund provides a financial assistance to more than 60 former jockeys who suffered catastrophic on-track injuries. Since its founding in 2006, the fund has disbursed more than $2.5 million.
Wouldn't Jocktails make a great title for a gay porn though? After practice a few athletes gather in the locker room…Seriously, the J Wagner Group could sell the naming rights to Raging Stallions Studios and donate the proceeds to the fund. Just a thought.
2. While we're on the subject of buff men, gents, don't let your date touch the jockeys
Last year Leparoux gave my wife a hug that left her raving about his physical condition. Yes, I mentioned this episode in my recap of that Jocktails [5], but as my wife still brings it up six months later, so will I. Let your date touch a jockey at your own risk.
3. While we're on the subject of jockeys…
They pour stiff drinks. I suspect their rationale is that bigger humans require bigger pours. So don't plan on rationing your tips throughout the evening—go big early.
