South Pacific is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical that takes place during WWII. Despite the war, love stories arise between Nellie Forbush and a French widower as well as Lt. Joe Cable and a native islander. Unfortunately, the war and prejudice could destroy any chance for love.
Among the better known songs from South Pacific are Some Enchanted Evening, I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair, and Nothing Like a Dame.
Charlie Swarens directed South Pacific, which features Laura Van Fossen as Nellie, Gary Crockett as Emile De Beque, Jon Driver as Cable, Lynn Benson as Bloody Mary, and Jack Sweeney as Luther Billis.
South Pacific premiered on Broadway on April 7, 1949 and ran for 1,925 performances before closing in 1954. The musical was revived twice on Broadway, most recently from 2008-2010.
Following South Pacific, Hayswood Theatre will open its 2012-13 season with Til Beth Do Us Part. Auditions for the show will take place tonight and tomorrow and the show will happen in September. More information can be found on the Hayswood Theatre audition
