BAND ESCAPES THE SNOW TO BRING “CITY FOLK” SOUNDS SOUTH FOR WINTER
LANSING, MI – December 31, 2012 – With snow falling steadily in Michigan, classical folk band Doug Mains & the City Folk take their songs southward on a five week, semi-national “South for Winter” tour. The tour, spanning from mid- January to mid-February, will take the band down through cities including Louisville, KY, Nashville, TN and Savannah, GA before heading back up through the East Coast.
Having toured a similar route back in August, the band spent the fall season performing locally and preparing to make the trip again.
“We had such an encouraging and enjoyable experience on our August tour, so we knew we had to come back as soon as possible," lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Doug Mains said.” We’re just loving the opportunity to branch out a bit from the Midwest, and there’s no better time to head south than during a Michigan winter.”
While the band does hold dear its Michigan roots, it has lately been focusing on winning listeners outside of the Great Lake State with their unique blend of folksy roots and classical undertones. The band layers vocal harmonies with acoustic guitar, cello, violin, accordion, upright bass and percussion to deliver engaging and dynamic live performances. Their shows feature a diverse collection of songs from two self-produced EPs, their debut full-length album, The Mountain’s King (2012), and new songs slated for a second full-length album that is planned for a summer 2013 release.
On Thursday, January 24, 2013 Doug Mains & the City Folk will be returning to the Hideaway Saloon of Louisville, KY alongside Nashville local Sarah Lou Richards. The show will start at 10:00PM. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the group that Bill Dawers of “Savannah Unplugged” calls “just too good to forget about [and] way too good to vanish from the scene.”
About the Band: One pensive troubadour backed by classical strings, modern accordion, and dynamic percussion
come together as Doug Mains & the City Folk. Rooted in Michigan, the group bears a rich and smooth sound that is
a refreshing turn in the progressive world of indie folk. Thought provoking lyrics run deep in Mains’ songs and are accompanied by lonely guitar pickings that swell to thunderous string harmonies. Having performed and toured for the past 5 years with their unique musical marriage of classical sophistication and front porch intuition--along with "a voice that will reach into your soul”-- Doug Mains & the City Folk are living up to critics’ praise: they are indeed "destined to be a Michigan icon of great Americana music."
