What’s that you say? You’re out of shape—but over the hill—and feel a little embarrassed at the thought of hanging out at your neighborhood fitness center, surrounded by svelte 30-somethings with rippling abs? Well, not to worry. Louisville has an exercise program perfectly suited for those of us who are both superannuated and subhealthy.
Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation is expanding its partnership with the Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness Program by adding a seventh location where the nationally-recognized program will be offered. Beginning February 4, SilverSneakers will be available at the Wilderness Road Senior Center, 8111 Blue Lick Road.
SilverSneakers, the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults, is available – at no or low cost – through many Medicare health plans, Medicare Supplement carriers, and group retiree plans. The program is renowned for its innovative blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially-oriented programming.
“Research points to the significant health benefits of regular exercise for older adults,” said BJ Levis, Metro Parks Recreation Administrator. “In addition to helping members stay physically healthy, SilverSneakers also offers a great way for them to socialize, meet new friends and have fun.”
