Tom Jones is a suave man with a mysterious background. A good squire found him abandoned and raises Tom as his own. Tom grows into a handsome man whom the ladies love. Yet, he only has love for one woman, the virtuous and gentle Sophia Western. The two share feelings, but before they can come together Tom is forced on a long journey that includes escaping from jealous husbands, facing swordfights, trying to reclaim his good name, and finding Sophia.
Tom Jones is based on the Henry Fielding book. Jon Jory adapted the story and directed the play for Actors Theatre.
The story may be best remembered as a 1963 British comedy movie that earned four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
During Tom Jones's run, Actors Theatre will present Fifth Third Bank's A Christmas Carol. The Christmas tradition will open on Nov. 26.
