Now that you love bourbon as much as I do, it’s time to start celebrating the versatility of Kentucky’s native spirit. Bourbon pairs very well with a wide variety of foods. It’s no surprise that you can find bourbon featured in so many dishes at local restaurants and stores. Here are some of those amazing foods and where to find them:
-Bourbon Barrel Foods is the go-to place for myriad bourbon-laced foods. Their offerings include Bluegrass soy sauce, bourbon smoked sugar, and bourbon smoked sea salt, among others.
-502 Café ’s menu features one of my personal favorites: bourbon bacon jam . He also uses bourbon in many creations on his ever-changing menu, including bourbon-injected smoked turkeys. Follow this food truck on Facebook for the latest.
-Maker’s Lounge uses bourbon smoked tomatoes, Maker’s Mark Buttermilk dressing, and Maker’s crusted burgers to create a bourbon-tastic menu.
-Feast BBQ offers a bourbon slushie to pair with awesome barbecue.
-The Oakroom at the Seelbach features such bourbon masterpieces and bourbon and maple belly confit and bourbon ice cream.
-Charr’d at the Marriott East uses bourbon in many dishes, including smoked bourbon butter and the Bootlegger Ribeye, which is smoked over a bourbon barrel. (See Louisville.com's review here .)
-Local dessert places always have something delicious with bourbon in it, from Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen ’s bourbon maple nut ice cream and Kentucky Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie to Comfy Cow ’s bourbon ball ice cream. And even though it is a chain, Gigi’s cupcakes has a fabulous Kentucky Bourbon Cupcake .
-Local candy makers always have fabulous bourbon balls and other bourbon candies. Visit Muth’s Candy store on Market, order online from Happy Balls , or visit Cellar Door Chocolates (Review here ) on Story Avenue. While you’re at Cellar Door, request they start making bourbon truffles. Because I love bourbon and truffles and it just seems logical in Louisville.
This is just a small sampling of the versatility of Kentucky’s native spirit. If there’s something unique out there you think I should try, Tweet me @LouGirl502. I’d love to check it out.
Now go forth and be a Bourbon Ambassador. Invite everyone you know to Louisville to learn about bourbon , try new bourbons , tour distilleries , and eat food with bourbon on top. Then check out one of these fabulous bourbon bars . Cheers!
