On Friday January 30th, 2009, Harbor House of Louisville, Inc. will host its 2nd Annual Hometown Health Fair at Incarnation Parish Center located at 2229 Lower Hunter Trace from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. This 2nd Annual Health Fair is made possible with the support of Anthem, Republic Bank, Councilman Rick Blackwell (District 12), Fazoli's Italian Restaurant , The Louisville Water Company and Incarnation Parish.
The first Hometown Health Fair held in January of 2008 was such a success that community members and agency representatives alike clamored for the event to return. According to Maria Smith, CEO at Harbor House “The success of last years event was a pleasant surprise, we had a large turn out and many of the health agencies present wanted to see the event return in 2009. We are so grateful to the sponsors who have made it possible for us to meet that demand and make the Health Fair available to the community again this year.”
The staff and members of Harbor House’s primary goal for this event is to continue their effort to empower the community to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors. The health fair will include free health screenings for the public as well as educational information related to health and wellness provided by over 25 local agencies. The free health screenings at the fair will include but not limited to: blood pressure, body fat, glucose and hearing.
The American Red Cross will be holding a Blood Drive at the Health Fair. The first 75 attendees are guaranteed a canvas bag provided by Republic Bank. Mini First Aid kits will be available to the first 300 attendees provided with the support of Councilmen Rick Blackwell. Fabulous gifts will be raffled off during the Health Fair with the proceeds to benefit the programs at Harbor House, and, there will be drawings for some unique door prizes through out the day.
Harbor House of Louisville, Inc. is a certified non-profit training and development center for adults with developmental and physical disabilities. In addition to paid employment, participants enjoy social and recreational activities, vocational training, community outreach & outings, life skills training. Harbor House is ensuring that adults with disabilities have locally available programs and services tailored to their abilities.
