D.L. Hughley, Tania James and yo mama highlight Louisville's weekend activities

Kentucky Derby 135 [3] came and went (as your money probably did too, if you placed a wager). But while activity at Churchill Downs [4] is down to a trickle, it's still going strong in the rest of Louisville. Here are some of Derby City's finer offerings for this weekend: Comedian D.L. Hughley May 8-10 The Improv Comedy Club 441 South 4th Street I caught D.L. Hughley's show on CNN [5] once and was unimpressed by him, save his ability to bore. But based on the press he's getting, his performances at the Improv [6] this weekend might be worth catching. Fair Trade Festival May 9, 12 p.m. Rainbow Blossom 3738 Lexington Road According to The Economist [7], the best English-language news publication out there (I read it religiously), fair trade is "an inefficient way to get money to poor producers," with as much as 90 percent of the markup on such products being taken by middlemen. But filthy, stinky misguided hippies are too busy smoking pot and playing Frisbee to research the economics behind their misguided theories, man. Louisville's First Annual Fair Trade Festival [8] provides the opportunity to point out the ignorance of their ways. Or go; you can buy their wares so they can take advantage of the world's poor in order to get to Bonnaroo. At least you'll help ship the hippies out of town for a weekend. Main St. Normally when I think of arts and crafts, the first things that comes to mind are some old Shaker-looking lady at a loom or a fella in overalls chewing on hay whilst whittling. So I'm not one who'd normally suggest an arts and crafts museum unless you're into yore. But this exhibit of concert posters [12] at The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is worth a look. Mother's Day May 10 Wherever yo mama is Just a reminder, Sunday is Mother's Day. At the least, cards, calls and flowers are in order. And while the specials probably are different, a lot of the restaurants I recommended for Easter brunch [13] are still great places to take your mom for brunch.
