Part restaurant, part brewery, part smokehouse, Against the Grain stepped up to fill the void left at Louisville Slugger Field when Browning’s closed. Several rotating varieties of beer are brewed on the premises, and the menu aims to please carnivores and vegetarians with selections like beer-can chicken, pan-seared duck, and tempeh pulled pork.
This wildly (excuse the pun) popular breakfast and lunch spot is an ode to the egg. The dining room features egg art and even egg-shaped salt and pepper shakers. The creatively titled offerings include “Violet You’re Turning Violet” blueberry pancakes and “Crispy Hippie Crunch” granola waffles.
The goal of this new eatery on the ever-evolving East Market corridor, is to cook and serve freshly and locally sourced food. That means the menu changes as the chef’s sees fit. However one thing that diners can always expect here is seasonal, well-prepared food served up in a stylish atmosphere.
This all-vegetarian Asian eatery features a variety of excellent soups as well as noodle and stir-fry dishes that offer lemongrass, curry sauce and black bean sauce, among other options. The soft spring rolls, tomato dill soup and sesame soybeans (a tofu dish) are highly recommended.
