The upwardly mobile of horse racing were seen in Louisville at Churchill Downs Friday afternoon with all the style and fashion expected for a world championship horse race. The Breeders’ Cup is known as the two richest days in racing, but the fashion associated with the event cannot compete with The Kentucky Oaks and Derby. As expected, the fashion police were out and about this sunny afternoon at the track. First indication of a good fascinator: if you need to adjust the frame to take the picture to get the fascinator in frame, it’s a good one.
In Kentucky, if you are at Churchill Downs for a major racing event, head wear is expected for the ladies. To encourage the ladies to show the stylings of Princess Kate, The Voice-Tribune hosted Fascinator and Fedora Friday at Breeder’s Cup. This little soirée did not leave out the guys as they had just as much a shot at the prize for the best looking fedora. The ladies and gentlemen came prepared as purple took first place as the color of choice. The weather outside inspired many to dress in neutral and natural colors as well as animal prints, bringing earth tones to the fascinators. Mixtures of blacks, browns, and tans offset the many purple head pieces. A few ladies took the feathered look to the extreme and added peacock feathers to the head gear.
I spent some quality time down in the Paddock to snap some pictures of this year’s fantastic head pieces. Seeing the head wear today makes me look forward to tomorrow’s fashion forward day of racing-but don’t go and think Derby will be outdone!
