Kentucky easily passes Lamar, 86-64 with help from Kidd-Gilchrist [Sports]

Just minutes into the Kentucky game, fans were informed No. 4 Louisville’s undefeated season came to an end as No. 12 Georgetown pounced on Pitino’s crew 71-68.  Kentucky fans were in the throes of basketball last night as the Cardinals of Lamar traveled to Rupp to meet No. 3 Kentucky.  The Christmas break on campus made it difficult to fill all the seats in the student sections, but loyal fans were out in their blue for the game.

The starters scored in double digits against Lamar, the Kentucky bench added 16 Pts.; 9 from Jones, 7 from Wiltjer. The Wildcats were led by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who took his game above the rim with 18 Pts., 6 Rebs., 4 Asts., 1 Stl., and 1 Blk. The freshman, Anthony Davis led the Cats in rebounds with 13 on the night, hitting another double-double and adding 10 Pts. to the score.  Teague added 15 Pts., but had trouble with the ball, turning it over 6 times.  Miller, who is liking the starting gig added 15 Pts. and 6 Rebs., with 4 of 6 three pointers to make his mark on the night. Lamb struggled to get shots off, yet still posted 12 Pts. with 2 Asts.  The Cats shot 81.8% from the free throw line, improving with every game.  The return of Terrance Jones to the court brought out the big blue spirit in Rupp as his dislocated finger did not seem to hinder his rebounding skills; 6 total, 4 offensive.

Lamar’s Mike James led the Cardinals with 29 Pts., 3 Rebs., 1 Ast., and 3 Stls. in a futile effort to take down Kentucky in Rupp.  The Lamar bench offered 18 Pts. and 16 Rebs. as the Cardinals struggled to contend with the height and energy of the Wildcats.  Lamar trailed the Cats the entirety of the game and remained scoreless for the first two minutes.  Against any other opponent, the Cats would have struggled, shooting 49.1%, 50.0% from 3-point range.

The meeting with Lamar was the final preparation for the Battle of Bluegrass on New Year’s Eve against Louisville, now 12-1 on the season.
